Consultation on

Kensington Town Hall Car Park

Kensington Property Partnership is proposing to repurpose part of Kensington Town Hall’s basement car park to deliver new, in-demand uses within a high-quality setting. The car park, which has its entrance and exit on Phillimore Walk, has some surplus space on levels B2 and B3 as the demand for car parking in the area has reduced over time. The proposals include:

  • Hospitality training academy

  • Flexible workspace for small businesses

  • Secure self-storage units with a manned reception

Repurposing the car park and introducing these new facilities whilst still providing an appropriate amount of car parking is a sustainable re-use of this surplus space within a central location. The proposals will support small, employment-generating businesses within a flexible workspace that is affordable. A modern self-storage facility will be created to serve the needs of local residents and businesses who otherwise have to travel long distances to access this type of facility. To ensure a healthy and safe environment for all those visiting and using the spaces, we are designing access to natural daylight and fresh air exchange through existing openings into level B2. We are also installing new lighting and adapting existing sprinkler systems.

Images of the current car park, which we propose to repurpose

Approximately half of the car park is proposed to be repurposed under these proposals. RBKC’s decision to let this space to Kensington Property Partnership for alternative uses is primarily due to car parking demand reducing over time. This proposal also supports RBKC’s wider strategic sustainability and environmental aims of reducing journeys by car and cutting CO2 emissions.

We will be undertaking a public consultation over the coming weeks on these proposals. We want to hear your thoughts on the new uses and whether you have any questions..
